Understanding the removal of breast implants

Why choose this treatment

Over time, a fibrous shell (capsule) may form around the breast implants. In some cases, this capsule can become thick, hard or painful (retractive capsulitis). Capsulectomy involves removing all or part of this capsule at the same time as the implants. This technique removes any tissue that has been in contact with the silicone in the implants. The removal may be followed by a breast lift to restore the natural shape of the breasts.

Aesthetic and medical indications

Prosthesis removal with total capsulectomy removes the implant and surrounding capsule when they are suspected of contributing to systemic symptoms such as fatigue, diffuse pain, skin disorders or inflammation. The aim of this procedure is to completely remove the foreign material and reactive tissues in order to reduce the inflammatory load and provide a healthier, more stable breast environment.

Contraindications:

Pregnancy, breast-feeding, local or general infection, serious unstable illnesses.
